Youngest Divine Almost Gets Run Down, Part One A, I hope.

(This is Part One A. To recap I'm having blogger problems and so yesterday's events are going up in sections so they don't disappear again. Two sections of the notes follow this one. Part One not A will preceed this one when recreated.)

2:29pm Youngest attempts to flap up on a parked car but slides off, tries again same problem. Back in the street, the two good Samaritans, and I attempt to stop traffic again. A white BMW with MD plates passes another car in front of The Plant Pavilion going south and comes roaring towards Youngest. Youngest scuttles toward the curb, the car brakes as more humans run into the street.

2:30pm Youngest makes it to the wall, but tries twice to jump up and falls back.

On the third try she manages to stick and sits like this for some minutes.

Youngest tries unsuccessfully to leap onto higher perch.

2:52pm Settling in, Youngest with Catbird screaming behind her head.

3:25pm Youngest still in the bushes being scolded by Catbirds. Quite amazing how many pedestrians walk past her without seeing her. Especially given the cacophany of bird sound. The Catbirds are so excited by this point they've begun to hop through the fence and scream at the people as they go by, as well as screaming at the hawk.

Youngest Divine Almost Gets Run Down and Too Many Hawks, Too Few Eyes

Chunks of the blog continue to evaporate as I work on it, so I'm going to post this section now. The previous part of the day will preceed this when pieced together again. Find the latter part of the day, posted last evening with some overlap, following this one.

3:34pm Dad arrives with prey and lands on higher level above Eldest.

3:34pm Eldest rears her head back and begs piteously.

3:35pm Eldest begs. Bring food.

3:49 Dad isn't going to bring it down, he goes out on scaffolding and checks response.

Prey is left unattended on corner above.

Eldest looks up at Dad, begs.

3:54pm Youngest still sits low on park wall.

Dad looks down at immature pigeon and her guardian.

...so does Eldest. She's plopped down on the scaffolding and won't go up to prey.

4:08pm Immature pigeon and her mom, below and slightly to west of hawks.

4:29pm Youngest has flapped to higher position, finally. At the lower position, we not only had to be vigilant that she might hop down and make for the street again, but one rare passer-by who actually noticed her, had to be gently asked not to take her picture from a spare foot or so away. From across the street it looked as if he was actually attempting to touch her.

429pm Youngest watches as Mom obviously flies by with prey.

4:33pm Eldest considers going up the stairs for food.

4:37pm Eldest finds a snack on the scaffold stage. Brought by Mom who had been above on toe sized ledge?

4:38pm After snack musing.

4:39pm Up the ante, as Eldest is distracted. Prey brought to near corner.

4:41 Prey at near corner. What is fledgling response? Not coming higher. Dad takes a few bites.

.4:46pm Dad nibbles prey, Eldest not amused.

4:46 Mom up and circles, Eldest watches.

Youngest Divine Almost Gets Run Down and Much More

Unable to get through the fence and therefore his mother, Youngest spooks and runs for Morningside Drive (or the trees beyond it) and into heavy traffic.

I'm having blog difficulties that make it impossible to finish Monday's post tonight. Therefore I'll attempt to complete it Tuesday, as most of it can wait. Though you might want to consider...

THE NUT OF THE ISSUE

Due to Youngest difficulties in not being able to get inside the parking lot fence today and then ending up on the sidewalk and in Morningside Drive with traffic, any Hawkwatchers who find they have time to monitor any possible repeat of the situation and put in some time as a possible eyass crossing guard Tuesday, might want to make a point of doing so . Just in case.

4:37pm Eldest finds a snack on the scaffold stage.

4:46pm Mom circles, Eldest watches. Note the curled talons.

4:55pm Mom to ledge above scaffolding with prey, then comes down from the higher ledge on the Cathedral and positions herself on the scaffolding. Gives food to Eldest.

5:09pm Longer view for perspective, Youngest in slightly higher position in the small tree across Morningside Drive at the intersection with 113th. Still being mobbed by the Catbirds after all these hours and still not making a move, even though both adult Divines had positioned themselves in high direct sightline with prey on the Cathedral to lure her back to the fold.

After the fourth phone call from my family, wondering if seven hours in the sun wasn't quite enough for one day, and with Irene and Stella on the job as possible eyass crossing guards, I exited.
