SATURDAY HAWKS AT THE CATHEDRAL

(The rest of the field notes yet to come later today.)

This eyass has begun to get some elevation from her flapping.

11:02 Eyass begins flapping bout. Note that the eyasse's "spotted breeches" grow further down the front of her leg than the back currently.

11:04 Eyass defecates. St. Andrew politely keeps his eyes averted.

( The question arose in my household as to why the "product" of the eyasse's system here, instead of taking the usual long arc form, takes the form of a partial corkscrew? My daughter Samantha's theory has to do with the windy day? Any other suggestions?)

11:06 Both eyasses in view.

E. J. McAdams, Executive Director New York City Audubon, stops by The Cathedral with his son Joe, and two of Joe's friends, who watched the hawks through the Swarovski and took some of these digiscoped photographs. Exactly who took what at this point is dicey as we didn't keep a log.

11:19 Dad flies in and perches on the decorative element to the right, west of the nest.
